FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Subsurface Drainage, and why is it important?
Subsurface drainage involves installing underground pipes to remove excess water from the soil. This helps reduce waterlogging, improves soil health, and prevents issues like rising salinity (salt scouring), leading to better plant growth and improved productivity.
How does your precision subsurface pipe installation work?
We use custom-built Masten Broek laser-guided drainage machines that dig the trench, install the pipe, and place aggregate around the pipe in one seamless pass. This ensures accuracy, speed, and minimal disturbance to your land.
What are the benefits of precision laser-guided installation?
High Accuracy: Achieves precise invert levels up to 1 in 1000 for optimal drainage.
Cost-Effective: Faster than conventional open-trench methods, saving time and labour costs.
Minimal Disruption: Less invasive than surface drainage, allowing trafficability over drains.
Improved Productivity: Reduces waterlogging and downtime, leading to better yields and machine efficiency.
What trenching depths can you accommodate?
Our equipment handles trenching levels from 400mm to 1800mm, suitable for a wide range of applications including vineyards, sports grounds, and broadacre farming.
How does subsurface drainage help with waterlogging?
By removing excess water from the root zone, subsurface drainage prevents anaerobic conditions (lack of oxygen in the soil). This promotes healthier plant growth and reduces the risk of bogged machinery during wet periods.
Can subsurface drainage stop rising salinity?
Yes, subsurface drainage helps lower water tables, which can halt or even reverse rising salinity. This prevents salt scouring and improves soil health.
How does subsurface drainage compare to surface drainage?
Subsurface drainage is less invasive, maintains soil structure, and allows normal traffic over the land. It also offers long-term solutions to problems like waterlogging and salinity.
What is the return on investment (ROI) for subsurface drainage?
Field trials in monitored environments have shown ROI within three years through increased yields and productivity.
What types of land and soil conditions are suitable for your services?
Our solutions work for all soil types and are ideal for sports grounds, vineyards, and farms dealing with waterlogging, rising salinity, or both.
Where do you offer your services?
We primarily serve the South West region of Western Australia, helping property owners tackle waterlogging and salinity issues efficiently. However, our team has worked on numerous projects all across Western Australia.
What makes Subsurface Water Solutions different?
Our unique approach uses custom-built, laser-guided drainage machines that complete the entire process in one pass. This is faster, more precise, and less invasive than conventional methods, delivering long-term results for your land.

OUR LATEST PROJECTS
Ray Owen Reserve – November 2025
We were involved in a larger scale project of rebuilding the oval at Ray Owen, we were working closely with Sports Turf Construction making time frames and communication important, this project involved a lot of hard rock digging with specialty rock teeth on our 2620 Masten Broek machine, we installed 6.5kms of Subsurface Drainage linked up to 225mm – 375mm collector pipes into concrete pits including concrete headwalls as designed. This was another Project we worked closely with intercompany businesses to achieve a great outcome for the City of Kalamunda
OUR LATEST PROJECTS
Highway Construction – Oakajee Project – May 2025
We were engaged by Highway Construction to trench and install 1.2kms of 100mm Subsurface Drainage and Rip Raps along the batters on the side of the new highway to alleviate the subsurface water pushing up from the sub-base under the road.
This was a challenging job as we had a specific time frame to complete, and the use of a specialized Rock cutting machine as the soil profile was predominantly a hard rock.
OUR LATEST PROJECTS
Local Wineries – Cullen Wines, Woodlands Wines, Edwards Wines – 2025
We are continuing to install Subsurface Drainage throughout the Southwest Wine Country helping to reduce Waterlogging and increase fruit growth, using our smaller 1012 Masten Broek machine we can fit between the existing fruit rows causing minimal disruption and damage to the area.
OUR LATEST PROJECTS
Woolkabin Farms Wagin – April 2025
With our one pass laser guided 2520 Plow machine we Installed 2kms of Slotted Socked Draincoil throughout waterlogged areas of the Grain Farm, this will increase crop yield within the first year of planting in these areas
OUR LATEST PROJECTS
City of Gosnell’s – Jean Garvey Oval – March 2025
Jean Garvey Oval was experiencing extensive flooding on the Oval during the Winter period, we installed over 3.5kms of 100mm & 160mm of Subsurface Drainage encased in Aggregate and finished with Topsoil as per specific design, this not only helped with the flooding but also increased the grass root structure strength and health. This was another Project we worked closely with intercompany businesses to achieve a great outcome for the City of Gosnells.
OUR LATEST PROJECTS
Kirk Whiting – Farm Munglinup
This land was experiencing Waterlogging and Salt Scouring, we installed 7 hectares of Subsurface Drainage encased with aggregate with our 2520 Masten Broek Plow, this improved crop yield by 2.5 tonnes per hectare of Canola in the first year, with a return on investment in 2 years.
